Biography / Info
Born into a musical family, Jess Stroup took an interest in music at a young age. Beginning with piano at the age of six, he studied many instruments growing up, including piano, double bass, violin, drums, and classical guitar. Live instruments make up the majority of Stroup’s music, with guitar, banjo, mandolin, bass, and ethnic instruments frequently appearing in his compositions. A graduate of New York University’s music production program, he is also a trained audio engineer, and it is this blend of technical knowledge and musical background that creates a cutting-edge yet familiar, organic sound.
To date, he has scored commercials for Hewlett Packard and United Healthcare Services, as well licensing music for American Idol (FOX), Burn Notice (USA), The Chronicles of Narnia Special Features DVD's, and shows on HBO, A&E, MTV, The Discovery Channel, STYLE Network, and Court TV. He regularly contributes music cues to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (ABC) and Warehouse 13 (Sci Fi), and has written for shows such as Trust Me (TNT), The Girls of Hedsor Hall (MTV) and The Bachelor/Bachelorette (ABC). Currently, Jess lives in Los Angeles, where he composes, performs live electronic music, and produces albums for independent artists.
