Biography / Info
J.J. Crowne is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who, after attending Oberlin Conservatory of Music, began his professional career composing and recording jingles, themes, and cues for radio, theatrical productions and TV - including Fox (cues for "America's Most Wanted"), PBS, Univision (1st. Place song for internationally-aired "Yo Quiero Ser Estrella" TV series), and TV industry mogul Barry Diller. In his home of Miami, he opened shows for acts as diverse as The Mavericks and Marilyn Manson in the early 1990’s.
J.J.’s musical styles range from folk/rock to alt-country to acoustic ballads. He performs all vocals and instrumentation himself on his emotional, heartfelt songs - each telling its own unique story. Reviewers often say his songs are reminiscent of some of the great singer/songwriters of the '60's and '70's but he is, as the Editor of MusicEmissions adds, “a singer/songwriter for the 21st. Century... a true troubadour."
J.J.’s debut solo release, “Songs Of Innocence And Experience,” was named ‘2011 Indie CD Of The Year’ by IndieMusicDigest. In 2012, J.J. released a five-song EP which was picked-up for airplay by over 1,000 internet, syndicated, and satellite radio stations worldwide, garnering accolades from over 20 music publications. New York Times Music Contributor Phil Sweetland called the EP “a passionate and timely and musical and lyrical vision.”
His new album is entitled “J.J. Crowne” and features the 5 songs from last year’s EP along with 5 new songs, all mixed and mastered with legendary Nashville engineer Jeff Silverman (Rick Springfield, Prince). As of September 2013, J.J.’s new album is receiving airplay in over 30 U.S. radio markets, with new adds every week. The album has entered the Americana Music Association’s national radio airplay chart Sept. 15, 2013. His single "Only Time" entered the national STS Country Chart as the #2 'Prime Mover' Sept. 20, 2013; and his album entered the Roots Music Report (RMR) Folk Internet spins chart at #7 that same week. His song "Toy Soldiers" was recently awarded Best Song (Folk/Singer-Songwriter category) for September 2013 by the Akademia Music Awards - a Beverly Hills, CA. organization of record industry executives.
